American Music Awards 2015 Fashion Letdowns
The 43rd Annual American Music Awards was held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
ABC and T-Mobile had promised before the American Music Awards that Justin Bieber would “shatter expectations”, closing the show “in a way [we’ve] never seen before”.
Some of the night’s winners also performed at this year’s AMAs, including One Direction, which won favorite duo or group in the pop/rock genre and artist of the year for the second consecutive year. Luke Bryan, who performed Home Alone Tonight was named Favorite Country Male Artist while Carrie Underwood was the Favorite Country Female artist.
Some other winners included Taylor Swift for Song of the Year, “Blank Space“, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, “1989”, and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.
While numerous headlines will no doubt focus on the diabetes-inducing stage makeout session between Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, the show’s saving grace was it’s packed schedule of musical performances.
Lopez also treated us to her own fashion show with many outfit changes.
Toronto born-R&B singer The Weeknd was declared Favourite Male Artist (soul/R&B), and his album Beauty Behind the Madness garnered him the Favorite Album (Soul/R&B) accolade.
“Make some noise for Prince, ladies and gentlemen”, the singer said. One Direction have had a renewed sense of energy since Zayn Malik left the band earlier this year, and that was clear during this AMAs performance, where all four boys bounced around the stage and sang as hard as they could.
While the majority of viewers praised Jennifer’s hard work and talent, Nicki was caught giving major side eye to Lopez as she danced along to her hit song. Blake Shelton’s new lady love performed her new song “Used to Love You” in the program proper, a song that is rumored to be about her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale. Nick Jonas was unexpectedly soulful in a medley of his 2015 hits, equaling a lively gospel choir in “Jealous“. Coldplay took the AMAs stage for the first time in seven years for a live rendition of “Adventure of a Lifetime“. There was Alanis Morissette, that star of 1990s alternative pop, performing a tune older than many in the planned audience of the program. Jared Leto gave an emotional speech on behalf of the AMAs, remembering victims of terrorist attacks around the world as he called for peace.
Bieber’s performance wasn’t the only well-received one: Celine Dion paid tribute to the victims of the recent Paris attacks by singing Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” in French as some audience members cried.
