‘American Sniper’ widow confronts Barack Obama over gun control
Earlier this week, Gov. Mike Pence discussed the state’s gun laws and said he supports the right the bear arms.
Major interest has been attracted by Mr Obama’s activities on firearms in the presidential campaign, with all the Republicans expressing resistance and the Democratic nominees.
Taya Kyle, the widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, said Friday that she doesn’t just oppose the idea of requiring background checks before buying guns, but also the idea that the president would make executive orders to get around elected officials who are representing their constituents’ wishes.
Obama, who admits frustration that Congress has not approved stricter gun-related legislation, has chose to do what he can through executive orders. “Since Congress won’t do anything, he’s doing the best that he can do, and we think that’s wonderful”. I’m also a proud member of the National Rifle Association, which promotes gun safety and responsible gun ownership.
The focus on the background check system is heartening because we know background checks work.
Taya Kyle went head-to-head with President Barack Obama about gun control during an event at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday, January 7.
This weekend, Pueblo hosted the “Tanner Gun Show” on the State Fairgrounds, and organizers say attendance was way up.
He added, “But I think the most important point I want to make is that you will be able to purchase a firearm, some criminals will get their hands on firearms even if there is a background check…”
The president reserves some of his word count to criticize the gun industry, particularly its interactions with his administration.
“Thank you for having the courage and leadership to take executive action on preventing more unnecessary gun violence in this country”, the letter says. Obama said individuals “in the business of selling firearms” must be licensed gun dealers, a process that can take as long as a year, and, if they are not licensed, the offenders will be prosecuted. “And I don’t blame the government, because there is only one person to blame here: The man or woman who chose to kill. I stand with the millions of law-abiding supporters of the Second Amendment, and with all those who respect our constitutional democracy, in opposing the President’s actions today”.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch answered Kyle’s question on Tuesday.
“Most weapons used in mass shootings are assault weapons purchased legally with background checks”, he said.
If there is anything I learned while watching the Guns In America town hall last night, it is that there is literally no gun control measure so minute, so common-sense, that it will not be interpreted as “THEY’RE COMING TO TAKE OUR GUNS AWAY!” People want common-sense limits on the possession of deadly weapons, and the time has come to give the people what they want.
