Opening with commentary from director Ron Howard playing himself, it purports to be made-for-TV movie that was made by Trump himself, but which never aired (as intended in 1988) and was recently rediscovered at a garage sale in Arizona.
The film opens with Depp as Trump waxing poetic about his big ambitions when he was just a boy in 1956.
The film, which had been kept secret for months, covers Mr Trump’s desperate quest to buy the Taj Mahal Casino from the Hilton family and makes fun of several of the book’s chapters like “The Art of Intimidating Rent-Controlled Tenants” and “The Art of Defeating Totally Bogus Lawsuits”.
Adam McKay, the amusing or Die co-founder and the maker of the film, told the New York Times that “it was a insane, completely nuts idea that somehow we pulled off”.
According to the New York Times, the movie was made in total secrecy, with Johnny Depp filming everything in just four days in December.
The flick also features Michaela Watkins as Trump’s then-wife Ivana and is capped off with a theme song by Kenny Loggins.
The site on Wednesday released a 50-minute faux television adaptation of Trump’s bestselling book, “The Art of the Deal“. “Money, power, respect, and an Eastern European bride”, a blurb on the amusing of Die website reads. “When he bizarrely didn’t go away, we had a little more time. But all his success didn’t come for nothing”, explains amusing or Die. “But that meant keeping the secret for longer”.
