Amy Poehler starring in basketball comedy from Universal
Ike Barinholtz, who will also appear in the film, will co-write the script with David Stassen.
Both Barinholtz and Poehler are alums of the Chicago comedy scene (iO Theater, in particular), and Barinholtz and Stassen were classmates at the Latin School of Chicago before moving to Los Angeles together.
Amy Poehler will star in and produce untitled basketball comedy for Universal through her Paper Kite Productions.
Poehler is pulling double duty on the pic as well, producing through her Paper Kite Productions.
The comedienne’s character has a real-life counterpart in former WNBA player Becky Hammon, who made history by becoming the NBA’s first female assistant coach (for the San Antonio Spurs).
The “Inside Out” actress will next be seen in “Sisters” alongside Tina Fey and Barinholtz. She is shooting the New Line comedy “The House” opposite Will Ferrell.
Their writing partnership includes the action-comedy “Central Intelligence“, starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, which is now filming in Boston.
Barinholtz is also an actor, playing Morgan on Hulu’s The Mindy Project.
The 43-year-old actress, fresh off her success of providing the voice of Joy in Pixar’s animated hit “Inside Out”, will play a washed-up basketball coach who gets called upon to coach an National Basteball Association team, reported Entertainment Weekly. Barinholtz is repped by Principato Young, UTA and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein & Kohner.
