Amy Schumer Denied Joke Stealing Months Ago
Earlier this week, Amy Schumer responded to accusations of joke-stealing from fellow comedians Wendy Liebman, Kathleen Madigan, and Tammy Pescatelli. “The thought that I would maybe see those jokes and then go, “Ooh, I like those, I’m going to close my HBO special with them” is insane”. “It went too far, and for that I’m super apologetic…She has every right to be mad”.
They say with hard work comes great success, but some are saying Amy Schumer found her success without the hard work.
“I have to come up with so much material for my TV show, (“Trainwreck”), stand-up, and I’m so careful”, Schumer said. “I probably should have just stayed out of it and kept my mouth shut”.
A now deleted video on Vimeo shows her telling a joke in the 90s, one that seems similar to a joke that Schumer told.
However, in October, a TMZ crew approached Schumer outside an airport and asked about accusations that she lifted material from late comedian Patrice O’Neal.
She didn’t make a big fuss about it, even after fans pointed out the similarity, until she took part in a Twitter conversation between herself, Kathleen Madigan and Wendy Liebman. I think that this is Tammy trying to get something going’.
“If we call her on it we are ‘jealous” or career shamed.
Then she stood up in her large green rubber suit and said, “I’m Gumby, damn it”. Be successful. WE want you to do well, just do it will (sic) your own material.
This reportedly led to a conversation (also now deleted) between three comics, one being Tammy Pescatelli.
‘I would never ever do that and would never have, ‘ she insisted, adding that she regularly cuts skits from her show out of fear that they are reminiscent of things that have been done before.
She also said she thinks it might be comedienne Tammy Pescatelli’s ploy for fame.
Amy quickly defended herself, and outright denied she had stolen any of her jokes after seeing the initial video.
