Amy Schumer in talks to star in live-action Barbie movie
That sounds like a lesson most of us could use.
Amy Schumer is in negotiations to play the title role inBarbie, the live-action Sony Pictures film based on the venerable Mattel toyline. After looking at three different ideas written a year ago, Sony chose to go with Hilary Winston’s script, but Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, are expected to rewrite it, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Schumer’s casting is sure to raise eyebrows. After all, Sony just hired first-time director Rodney Rothman to helm their female-led 21 Jump Street spin-off. Parents won’t mind letting their impressionable daughters watch this PG-rated movie when it comes out in 2018.
Her character in the Barbie movie will share her same ideals, according to Deadline. The movie will help move the idealistic and unreal beauty standards of the original Barbie into a contemporary setting. In a fish-out-of-water story reminiscent of Splash or Big, Barbie follows Schumer’s character in Barbieland, which she’s soon kicked out of, forcing her into the real world. The magazine said the story now involves Ms. Schumer playing a doll that is “expelled” from an idealistic land of toys before venturing off into “the real world”.
Wow, who would have thought that Masters of the Universe would be such a trendsetting fantasy movie?
Schumer in the role of Barbie – which, by the way, traditionally has a figure that is anatomically impossible to emulate – hasn’t been lauded by everyone, however.
Before you say, “Wait!” I couldn’t think of any woman better suited to reinvent Barbie for the big screen than Schumer.
