Amy Schumer Responds to Complaints About Her Having ‘Blind Spot Around Race’
Clearly, Schumer didn’t take the criticism lightly.
She makes no apologies about making politically incorrect jokes about race. Every costume, ever slasher scene.
Amy Schumer recently turned down an opportunity that most comics would kill for-to be the host of “The Daily Show”. Veteran comics Chris Rock, Louis CK, and Amy Poehler-whose “No” was apparently delivered so quickly it almost broke the sound barrier-were all in consideration for the job.
Unfortunately for her fans, the award-winning actress said no.
The Guardian also accuses Amy of delving into racism and “into racial territory tactlessly and with no apparent larger point” during Schumer’s stand-up shows, reports Vulture. She was named one of the TIME 100 most influential people this year.
If you’re still playing catch-ups: here she is annihilating rape culture in sports with nothing but knowing glances and a comically large wine glass, here’s another on douchey beauty standards and boy bands, and one more where she takes aim at Hollywood double-standards while gently sending Julia Louis-Dreyfus afloat for a Viking funeral on her “last f***аble day”. “Now I prefer consensual”.
As for The Guardian’s opinion, she says it’s flat-out wrong. That girl nervously fumbling through her wallet in an attempt to avoid identifying someone as Black is, for lack of a better word, an idiot. Maybe. There are comedians out there who say things that are just plain offensive across the board. A one-way exchange. It’s the standard attitude of the George Carlin’s, Doug Stanhope’s and Bill Maher’s of the world. I know that because people laugh at it. Even if you personally did not. Why does she feel so hard done by softly-worded complaints that form mere shadows among the monoliths of kind words about her work? Write what you know and all that. “My fight is for all people to be treated equally”. Therefore, Schumer defended herself and her act via Twitter after allegations of her being a racist came about.
