Amy Winehouse nominated for Brit Award as documentary vies for Oscar
“Had a good old sob down the phone followed by all of us freaking out on our group chat, getting all teary and soppy…we can’t believe it. Every year we watch The Brits Awards and say ‘imagine if we got to do that” and here we are’. She’s also the clear frontrunner for the BRITs Global Success Award, given for global sales success.
As the nation looks forward to finding out who has made the shortlists for the 2016 BRITs, which are revealed this evening at an exclusive nominations launch show “The BRITs Are Coming” broadcast on ITV at 10.40pm, these three stellar names add to an already incredible live line up for the awards, which will be hosted by Ant & Dec.
In the British female solo artist category, she faces Jess Glynne, Laura Marling, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine as well as late singer Amy Winehouse.
The awards are one of the biggest nights in the music business calendar, honouring British and global performers.
The official BRIT Awards nominations are based on votes cast by a Voting Academy, consisting of over 1,000 representatives from 15 sectors of the music industry including artists, managers, journalists, major and independent labels, publishers and retailers. This year’s award is won by Island’s Jack Garratt. Other indies gain eight nominations, meaning the indie sector as a whole has 14 nominations.
The BRIT Awards 2016 with MasterCard will take place on Wednesday 24th February at London’s O2 Arena and will be broadcast live on ITV.
Adele’s hit single “Hello” will also compete for British single and British artist video of the year.
The four new acts join a bill bursting with the world’s biggest music stars such as Justin Bieber, Coldplay and Adele.
