An ‘Empire’ spin-off is happening
During the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour executive panel, Walden referred to “Empire” as a “shot in the arm for broadcast”. “We talked about it in the room already”.
“The possibility of a crossover at some point exists, but it’s definitely not what we’re planning right now”, she said.
While that hot mess of a relationship heats up, Andre (Trai Byers) is looking to remove his father from CEO of Empire.
Lee Daniel’s Empire is expanding.
The trailer for season two of Empire was revealed on Thursday, with the promo featuring a clip spotlighting the major standoff between siblings Jamal and Hakeem, who are rivalling over which of them will be more successful in the music industry. “This is a completely different thing”, said Daniels of Star. So if we can bedazzle you with a little Denzel, a little Oprah, whatever, that’s okay.
At this time, Fox has not officially announced a spinoff, however Daniels is in the works on a second FOX series.
Daniels said, “There is going to be a spin-off from Empire, without question, I think there is so much ripe story. That’s what the show is about”.
As they did in Season 1, the storylines in “Empire” will have parallels to real-life events and incidents, but Chaiken pointed out that the writers aren’t necessarily chasing trends. “We just want to be ourselves”.
Taraji doesn’t think her job is easy in the slightest, but something about the challenge of depicting Cookie, who is often blunt, is scintillating for the thespian. The show garnered an Emmy nom for Henson but was left out of the running in the competitive best drama series race.
But Daniels chalked up the controversy to social media users misinterpreting his “twisted” sense of humor. “I said he had ALS, because if he misbehaved, you know what I mean?” said Daniels, possibly only partly joking, of Howard. And they’d look at me like, huh? “I’m very excited that we are picked up”.
Lucky for us, Fox also dropped a new Season 2 trailer today, which gives us plenty to chew on, including glimpses of Marisa Tomei as a billionaire businesswoman and Chris Rock (!) as a fellow inmate of Lucious’s.
