Anand Parbat case: Kejriwal to meet Bassi on July 20

On AAP’s demand for bringing Delhi Police under the city government, Bassi said there is no need for any changes in its current administrative structure. “They are not concerned with the issues of the people”, Congress leader Meem Afzal told the media here.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Sunday said that he would ensure a fair and impartial investigation in the murder case of the girl in Anand Parbat region.

The Chief Minister also announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the girl’s family. Delhi Police now reports only to the central home ministry.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case and asked the district magistrate to submit his report at the earliest, a senior official said.

Kejriwal, who has been fighting to get greater powers of control over the police, has blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi”.

The fatal gang-rape of a medical student in December 2012 on a bus in Delhi triggered mass protests and led to a tightening of laws on sex crimes.

The incident happened when the girl went out for buying supplies from the local market and the two brothers seeing her, confronted her.

Both mother and daughter were taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where the girl succumbed to her injuries, police said. “In the past few weeks several incidents of crime against women have been reported”.

“I have called the police commissioner on Monday to discuss this case and law n order situation“, Kejriwal said. Majority being heinous in nature and most of it against women.

The two brothers had eve-teased the girl in 2013, and got enraged when they saw her yesterday, on Thursday, and repeatedly stabbed her to death.

Newly-appointed DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal also visited Meenakshi’s family.
