Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu To Launch Xiaomi’s First Made In India
“We welcome Xiaomi to Sunrise Andhra Pradesh and India”.
The Redmi 2 Prime itself is certainly a decent device, especially for the price.
Last year, the company had announced that it had sold 1 million devices in the five months to December. Xiaomi, whose CEO is China billionaire Lei Jun, began selling phones in India in July a year ago.
Chinese gadget maker Xiaomi today unveiled the first phone it’s manufacturing in India.
He continued, “After taking into consideration several factors, manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh was an obvious choice for us”.
“Redmi 2 Prime is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to be assembled in our facility in Sri City”.
Other specs of the device include a quad-core CPU, a Snapdragon 410 chipset that supports 64-bit applications, an 8MP primary camera, 2MP front shooter, and a microSD card slot. It also features up to 16 GB of storage and a rear-facing camera that boasts 8 megapixels. It also runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 on top.
New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi will launch its first “Made in India” smartphone Visakhapatnam on Monday. This was an advantageous move for the company to market its product in the new target market, as part of its global expansion plan, and at the same time cuts production cost.
He added that the facility at Brazil, which is also operated by Foxconn, had taken nearly thrice the time to be set up. “It is the biggest market for us beyond China, it will someday be as big as China”, Barra told Bloomberg. “This has been possible due to the support of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his forward-thinking policies, as well as Ashok K. Kantha, ambassador of India to China, who played a key role in helping us to forge links with Andhra Pradesh”, he said. This would reduce in further reduction in costs of Xiaomi’s already dirt-cheap phones.
Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Michigan 5 soon in the global market. Jain did not share the existing or projected capacity, but said that it can be ramped up as per demand. Currently, the plant stands at 60,000 sq feet and has four lines.
If Foxconn follows through on its $5 billion investment plan, more of its clients may have their phones produced in India.
Last week, Xiaomi revealed that the company aimed to have a pan-India presence in offline retail as well. Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s chief stated “this is like the typical chicken and egg story”. Xiaomi will partner with Foxconn to create more handsets in the country. “India is fast becoming the next major growth wave”.
