Andre Branch makes big play for Jacksonville Jaguars
“It’s always exciting when you win a ballgame”, Bortles said. Jacksonville added a late field goal and held Tennessee out of the end zone on the game’s final play to preserve the lead.
Each stop raised the stakes for the Jaguars.
That was the game in which the Jaguars ran backup Toby Gerhart four consecutive times at the goal line and failed to get in. Tennessee’s flubs just came at more inopportune times. “We’ve got to make more plays like that”. The lone touchdown, a 5-yard pass from Blake Bortles to Julius Thomas with 3:30 remaining, provided the winning points.
With Kendall Wright inactive for the Thursday Night matchup and an unreliable Justin Hunter out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle, I’m not sure what they were expecting.
Play-action. Find the open man. Deliver it to him in-stride for 29 yards.
Tennessee answered by marching to the Jaguars’ 32, but a third-down pass by Mariota was incomplete. “We have playmakers that are starting to make plays in crucial situations and you can see it each and every game”. Mariota has Jameis Winston for that honor, and Bortles wasn’t drafted close to any other quarterbacks, even though Teddy Bridgewater (32nd overall in 2014) has played like a top pick at times. However, the drive again stalled there, thanks in large part to uninspired play-calling.
It was more of the same on the first drive of the third quarter. Again, I will say it: the Jacksonville Jaguars will win the AFC South! He caught three passes for 19 yards. They watch what just took place.
This hasn’t been an ideal season for Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Andre Branch. The Jaguars were trailing in the final five minutes of each game.
“We’ve been in these one-possession games all season”.
Kicking off the Week 11 NFL schedule on “Thursday Night Football”, we had a divisional matchup between the Titans and the Jaguars.
They have a franchise quarterback and the makings of a pretty good defense. Yes, Jason Garrett’s team owns a pair of divisional wins but have also lost to the Giants and Eagles this year and are in the midst of a seven-game skid. But time was the Titans’ enemy, as they were out of timeouts. Better yet, take a leaf out of the Carolina Panthers playbook and let Marcus Mariota plow through behind his offensive line.
TE DeLanie Walker did what he could to lift the Titans to a win.
In the face of mounting losses, Mularkey is choosing to stay the course. “They came out in the second and did a nice job”.
Titans running back Bishop Sankey was a healthy scratch. Antonio Andrews had 94 total yards on 17 touches. He was back there and got a low punt to him.
Tennessee is now 2-8 on the season, but they are a winning streak away from post season contention. The Titans put together an 81-yard march, including two pass-interference penalties against the Jaguars for 48 yards, in five plays. Without those two plays, the Titans have just 55 yards on 24 carries, a 2.3 yards per carry average. Hunter’s not big solution, but the Titans were left with Harry Douglas and a kiddie corps at receiver. But for them to get out of it, Green-Beckham is going to have to grow up quick.
What it means: This was the Titans’ third game without Kendall Wright and their first without Justin Hunter.
It’s going to take the Titans a little while to build this thing.
Marcus Mariota had an opportunity to add to the early accomplishments of his rookie season. He’s the real deal.
After last week’s “colour rush” game between the NY Jets and Buffalo Bills left some colour blind viewers unable to distinguish between the two, last night’s game reminded numerous original Star Trek series.
