Andrew Bogut Reportedly Agrees to Contract Buyout with Philadelphia 76ers
Matthew Dellavedova couldn’t spark the Milwaukee Bucks against his old side Cleveland as a returning LeBron James powered the Cavaliers to a 102-95 National Basketball Association win on Monday night (Tuesday AEDT).
On Saturday afternoon, the Cavs finally found their man.
Williams was widely rumored to be heading to Cleveland, after he had his contract bought out last week by the rebuilding Mavericks. One such team that was monitoring this situation closely was the Cleveland Cavaliers. It also came out after those games that Lebron privately questioned the intensity of the Bucks’ two young stars and whether they only get up for big games.
The Cavs’ frontcourt has lacked some size this season. That trade catapulted the Cavaliers into the top five of National Basketball Association defensive ratings, and this signing has the potential to provide a similar spark, especially on the second unit.
Deron Williams is all praise for LeBron James. In their final regular season matchup, the Cavs held him to nine points and seven boards on 4-for-13 shooting.
Therefore, while Bogut could certainly help out Cleveland’s middle-of-the-pack defensive and rebounding efforts, the impact against his old team will be minimal if he decides to sign with the Cavs. There should be no such concern with Deron Williams.
The three-time All-Star gives Cleveland depth, someone to lead its second unit and a reliable backup for Irving. There aren’t a lot of point guards who can do both. But even though Williams’s overall stats remain down and he clearly isn’t the player he was earlier in his career, there’s a chance that he’ll fill the specific needs of the Cavs. “This is a very deep team”.
Asked about whether he thought about postseason awards during the course of the year, James pointed at one of the key statistics in his career, but was reluctant to promote himself as a candidate for the NBA’s 2017 Most Valuable Player Award. I’m going to go talk to him right now.
Milwaukee coach Jason Kidd, a premier point guard during his playing career, coached Williams in Brooklyn during the 2013-14 season. That’s what draws the defense’s attention away from the other, off-ball actions that spring Kyle Korver or Richard Jefferson open.
But it wasn’t enough.
Whoever lands Bogut will acquire a frontcourt presence who played just 26 games this season for the Mavericks.
But it still wasn’t enough.
For Bogut, signing with the Cavs allows him to potentially get some watchable revenge on his former team, the Golden State Warriors, if the Cavs and Warriors are to meet again in the NBA Finals.
“Everyone wants to win a championship, but they want to win a championship doing it their way”, he said. He needs to help create offense, especially off the pick and roll, for himself and his teammates.
