Android M Developer Preview Gets Its First Update
The impact on you: Even if you don’t plan on running the Developer Preview yourself, frequent public updates like this are good news for you as an Android user. In an update on the developer page, Google has listed the following updates to the developer preview. The Bluetooth Stylus API has been updated so it can be used to callback events. It was a bit buggy, sure – but it let developers test their apps and get to know the new OS before everyone else got their hands on it. Users will have to explicitly grant permission in order to access the phone through their computer.
Updated Media API with new callback Input Device has Microphone method for determining if a device microphone exists.
First, you need a compatible device – that is, the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, or Nexus 9. Today it makes good on that promise (albeit maybe a little late) with Developer Preview 2. The company needs to work harder to rectify these issues with the Android M release this fall.
Manufactured by HTC, the Google-branded Nexus 9 features an 8.9-inch display with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, 2GB of RAM, a massive 6,700mAh battery and a flash-enhanced 8-megapixel camera.
Google said the update can be downloaded over the air. “The update includes a variety of enhancements and bug fixes made across the system, including those related to issues reported by developers through the external issue tracker“. Then a fourth and final Android M Developer Preview representing the “launch-ready” software will arrive sometime in Q3. It may only offer one more before the unnamed Android system is considered complete.
