Android M lawn statue teaser
Now that Android M is nearing its official release, which is expected some time this month, Google put out a video hinting at what the M could stand for.
Android M is due for release in the autumn, but it looks like the grand name unveiling could be just around the corner.
But Googlers Nat and Lo changed that last week with a video teaser that suggested the likely names for the Android Lollipop sequel. I personally think it’s going to be Marshmallow. Ever heard of the phrase “slower than molasses”? Google has already rolled out Android M to developers, but has not yet revealed the name of the sweet treat that Android M will be named after.
The video ends with a scene of a man spray painting the bottom half of an Android statue white instead of the usual Android green color. First, the obvious was stated – that the next Android label is a sweet that starts with the letter M.
In the new version of Android, you’ll also find support for fingerprint sensors, improved battery life management, better permissions settings for apps and a much smarter Google Now.
OK… for now it’s still Android M, but there have been sufficient rumors and hints for us to safely guess that the follow up to Lollipop will be called Marshmallow*. Until now, the popular choice has been Milkshake, but the video has sparked speculations that Android M could be named Marshmallow, as marshmallows are also cylinder shaped.
