Android Marshmallow Rolls Out To Nexus Devices Next Week
The Nexus 5X (made by LG) and the Nexus 6P (made by Huawei) carry the brand new Android Marshmallow OS and are meant to take on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus recently launched by Apple. It will feature a 1440p AMOLED display with an impressive pixel density of 518 pixels per inch.
The phones are named the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. The base model comes with 32GB, while a more expensive one has 64GB of internal storage, and, for the first time with a Nexus device, there’s a 128GB model.
The 5X also comes with a 5.2-inch full HD screen, and has the Snapdragon 808 processor, as well as something Google calls Android Sensor Hub.
The Chromecast video streaming stick also got a major refresh today: The device itself has been redesigned with a few more modern guts that support the latest Wi-Fi standards. The Nexus 6P is a larger device with an aluminum shell and the Nexus 5X is smaller with a plastic frame.
Both feature the Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor which can unlock the phone without the need of a passcode and quickly authorize Android Pay purchases.
As for availability, Google said that its Nexus smartphones will be available exclusively via the Google Play Store in the USA, and via other retailers in the rest of the markets. Available in black, white and blue colours, the smartphone has a 2,700mAh battery.
Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will feature the same 12.3-megapixel, f/2.0, camera, which is paired with a dual-LED flash and IR laser-assisted focus.
USB-C enables users to power up their phone much quicker than before – ten minutes of charge gives you seven hours of battery on the 6P and four on the 5X. Talking about the fingerprint sensor, Google said it will be built right into Android; named Nexus Imprint, it can recognize fingerprints in less than 600 milliseconds.
The 6P will start at $499 for the 32GB and will start shipping out to customers in October unlocked and without a contract.
The device is available for preorder from Google Store starting today in USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Korea and Japan with shipments scheduled for the latter half of October. In the USA, pre-orders include a $50 Play credit to help you stock up your favorite music, apps, games and shows.
