Android users now have the option of YouTube’s dark mode
YouTube has finally rolled out dark mode for Android users which was made available for desktop past year while for iOS this March.
A dark theme was first announced and rolled out on YouTube’s desktop website.
Dark Mode is now only available on the Outlook.com web app, and only available through the beta version, which can be easily enabled by toggling a switch at the top of the inbox. Then, of course, there is also the option to turn it off as well.
The dark theme is actually dark grey rather than black and the theme will be applied to the app’s background, settings, search pages, and anything else that is white.
The “Dark Mode”, which converts Youtube’s content to a dark background on white text is finally arriving on Android platform. The feature which was much liked by users on both desktop and iOS was one of the handfuls missing from Android for quite some time now.
This dark theme appears to be on a staged rollout, and should hopefully roll out to all Android users eventually.
Many publications around the web, including 9to5Google, are beginning to spot dark mode availability in YouTube for Android. If you don’t see the enw dark theme implemented, then tap on the profile photo, head over to Settings and hunt for the new Dark Theme from the General settings. First and foremost being reduced strain to your eyes when you are using the YouTube app at night or in low-light.
Dark mode has been in the making for more than a year altogether. Another newer feature is the ability to play back vertically filmed videos on the entire screen of a smartphone – without the black bars on either side.
