Andy Murray learns potential route to Wimbledon final
His coach, Ivan Lendl, said he was “not at all” concerned about the hip injury and Andy is now set to defend his title at Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.
The 2017 Wimbledon takes place at the All England Club from 3rd July to 16th July, and it is set to offer two weeks of premium summer entertainment to tennis fans all over the globe.
SCHEDULE: Main-draw play begins Monday. He’s 1-4 lifetime against Federer (whom he could only meet in the final), but anyone who’s beaten a No. 1 player once knows it can happen again.
Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who won the French Open title with her surprise victory over Halep in the women’s singles final, has been drawn against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus. A third Wimbledon title will put Murray in a group that includes Briton Fred Perry, world number four Novak Djokovic and German great Boris Becker. The Czech won the Wimbledon warm-up tournament in Birmingham, England.
It was a defining moment in Serena Williams’ career as she emerged out of the shadows of her elder sister Venus, who was also the defending champion in the 2002 Wimbledon tournament.
Fifth seed Stan Wawrinka has been in excellent form in 2017, making it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the final at Roland Garros. Also absent: 2004 champion Maria Sharapova, who is sitting out the tournament for the second straight year. Now there are new expectations, and no opponent will overlook her, but consider this: Grass is her favorite surface; she was the junior champion at Wimbledon in 2014.
He is due to face Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, having been kept on the opposite side of the draw from favourite Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Live stream: Follow along on the Wimbledon website. He has just a 24-7 record in 2017 and has not looked sharp in the Grand Slams, falling in the second round at the Australian Open and in the quarterfinals of the French Open.
World number 1 Andy Murray is the top seeded player.
The favourite for the event is not even ranked in the top-ten and it is two-time former champion Petra Kvitova – who has made a successful return to the sport following a knife attack past year which damaged her hand, and their would be few more popular winners.
PRIZE MONEY: Total is 31.6 million pounds (about $40 million), with 2.2 million pounds (about $2.8 million) each to the men’s and women’s singles champions.
