Angela Merkel’s office sealed off after a suspicious package was found
Police say they’re checking a suspicious object found during a routine security check at the entrance to Chancellor Angela Merkel’s office in Berlin.
The area was cordoned off at 8:30 a.m. (2:30 a.m. ET) Wednesday, federal police press spokesman Thorsten Peters told CNN.
According to The Independent, picture from the scene confirmed 4 yellow postal crates deserted in heavy snow outdoors the chancellory in Berlin.
In 2010, police intercepted a package containing explosives sent from Greece to Merkel’s office. Germany and other European powers have been on particularly high alert since Islamist militants killed 130 people in Paris on November 13.
The latest scare comes after police received a tip off that members of ISIL plan a terrorist attack in Munich.
