‘Angry Birds’ first teaser features anger management
It might seem early but the hour was inevitable: ladies and gentlemen, we have a trailer for the Angry Birds movie. I never thought a movie about Lego could work, but we all know how that turned out. Case in point, the trailer for the Angry Birds Movie was released today (even though the film won’t be playing at a theater near you until next summer). Kids everywhere obsessed with Angry Birds are going to flock to this thing, so prepare yourself for a new franchise.
Will Angry Birds transcend its video game origins and become something more?
It’s safe to say that Rovio has milked Angry Birds for every penny that it’s worth, and then some.
Bill Hader will play Leonard, a pig spokesman who must stand up for the oinkers after they attempt to infiltrate the birds’ nests. The setting for the films is an island populated with flightless birds, which we all know from playing the game. He’s pals with other equal also-flew birds too like Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb (Danny McBride). Industry veterans Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, both first-time directors, are helming the project, and Jon Vitti (The Simpsons, The Office, The Larry Sanders Show) wrote the screenplay.
Forced to enroll in anger management classes, these outsiders must learn to contain their rage and defeat the Green Pigs who invade their island home, or so the script goes. The supporting cast includes Keegan Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Grammy nominee and Latin music sensation Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla). You’ve probably downloaded the game at one time or another-that’s how ubiquitous the game is in the mobile world. The release date is set for sometime in 2016.
