Another alleged highway shooting, this time along M-66 near Athens
Reports had been coming from drivers on I-94 and I-69 in Calhoun and Branch Counties, all happening during broad daylight.
Reich said drivers should “remain vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles, subjects or activity they observe”.
One shooting happened along M-66 at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near Athens.
Deputies are collecting information on the Eaton County incidents, Saxton said.
Twenty incidents have ben reported, but only three along Interstate 94 and Interstate 69 have been confirmed bullet hits.
Saxton said Thursday investigators don’t have enough information yet to determine whether the incidents reported Wednesday are connected to the previous reports on the two highways, but are continuing to investigate.
Jeanne Piccard lives in the area and says she heard gunshots all morning Wednesday.
We’ve also just learned that Eaton County officials are also investigating two damage reports from projectiles that happened along M-50 near Vermontville Highway over the past 10 days. Eaton County deputies responded to the M-78 incident, but it happened outside of Eaton County, she said. Between August 19 and early September, about 20 vehicles had been damaged, investigators said.
There were no injuries reported in either incident, Saxton said.
The next one happened about 15 minutes later.
Saxton also said motorists should be vigilant while driving and make note of where an incident occurred if their vehicle is damaged.
“That does appear to be from a firearm”, Saxton said. Officials did not explain why the two newest incidents in Eaton County were not disclosed until Thursday.
