Another former Philadelphia Eagles player connects Chip Kelly to racism
Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez addressed the issue on Sunday, as reported by PhillyMag.com, and he shot down the notion and asked the media to quit asking players about it.
This time, it was cornerback Brandon Boykin, who was traded Saturday night to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional fifth-round pick.
Boykin drove to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and was in pads with the Steelers Sunday. Same thing with Stephen A, he never said Chip was a racist but he had a number of players saying that they didn’t like the way Chip was coaching sometimes and his demeanor towards them. I also noted he took a bit longer to get up than usual. “Obviously, when you’re in the association, you’re not going to voice your assessment”.
The August 2 practice-the first of training camp-saw Bradford without a knee brace on for the first time as an Eagle.
NOTES: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said WR Martavis Bryant had a procedure to fix an elbow infection and will be out “a couple days” while the infection subsides…. “We don’t have a lot of experience”. Acquiring Boykin puts less pressure on the rookie and bounce-back veteran, so if those two don’t have the desired 2015 impact, at least this team will field one good corner. Boykin is 5-9, 183 pounds. Sixth-round pick JaCorey Shepherd is getting the first chance. In three National Football League seasons, he has 120 consolidated handles, seven capture attempts and four constrained bungles.
“What player is not going to want to play as much as he possibly can?” I was battling a hamstring from like the second game all the way throughout the season….
“I’ve been in the slot my entire career”. As you’d probably expect, Kelly praised the remaining linemen, among them Allen Barbre and Matt Tobin and Andrew Gardner and Dennis Kelly, guys who were previously backups who will now fight for starting positions. “You’re capable of making plays just like the other 10 guys”. A transaction which is rare after a week into training camp, but the acquisition of another defensive back certainly left many scratching their heads, and the cornerbacks on the current roster were certainly among those who were wondering why help would be needed.
Chip Kelly’s offseason moves did little to comfort Philadelphia fans in 2015.
But as he has done following similar charges by former running back LeSean McCoy and assistant coach Tra Thomas, Kelly insisted he is not anxious about a negative perception.
Boykin acknowledged that he is not the only one who has spoken out about Kelly, and he believes the inability to relate is probably why. “I think those are the guys you should talk to”, Kelly said.
Kelly said that when he informed Boykin he had been traded, Boykin took it like a pro and didn’t express any hard feelings. “However I’ve got to do it, at the end of the day, regardless of what happens, I just want to be able to say I did my best, I gave my all”.
Matthew Emmons/USA Today Sports Kelly and cornerback Brandon Boykin get pretty comfortable with each other here, but Boykin says otherwise. “He really liked it here”, Kelly said. “You can have fun”. “And so the doctors, I talked to them yesterday about it and they were cool with it, so we’re going to go without one”.
