Anthony Davis carried off court with knee injury, questionable to return
After Phoenix fell 122-116 on the road Sunday, the message was simple.
That was before the game. The Pelicans said the injury was a right knee contusion with no structural damage and that he is questionable to return to the game, per Fox Sports’ Jennifer Hale.
Said Paul: “I drew a foul”.
Those 15 points are pretty important in a game the Jazz won by 14.
Davis did not returned to the bench, but not to the game, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes. Ish still struggles defensively, and will have trouble keeping up with Chris Paul Friday night.
“Tonight we beat ourselves”. “Coach told us to come out and play more aggressive”. We’re just a month in. This doesn’t have to be a close game.
“We need to get more”, Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. ALEX LEN replaced him in the starting lineup.
Hayward hit an off-balance shot and Hood added two free throws to put a stop to the Pelicans’ final surge, helping Utah re-establish a double-digit lead at 94-84. Guard Austin Rivers came off the bench to score 17 points against his former club.
Redick, who topped 2,000 career field goals in the first quarter, connected on eight of 14 shots from the floor, including all three of his 3-pointers. Despite the loss, Blake Griffin earned his seventh double-double this season with 40 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pelicans wings were getting straight up blown by at times this game. That was a win for the Pelicans, who purposely lived with the threes and by keeping Phoenix out of the paint.
The Jazz are finally back home for their first long stretch of the season.
– Davis is still a monster.
Here’s an incredible stat for you, though: Davis played almost the entire game tonight, 44 minutes and 20 seconds in all.
The Pelicans were led by Anthony Davis who finished with 26 points and 17 rebounds. Knowing that didn’t change Anderson’s production Wednesday.
– With 29 seconds left, the Suns’ pick-and-roll defense broke down as Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday got to the rim. Despite a few late runs, this one was never really in doubt with the New Orleans Pelicans falling to the Utah Jazz 101-87.
Paul denied any intent in trying to hurt Davis. “Once you get that, then you’ll really know what your hunger level is”. If AD is a no-go, it’ll be interesting to see if Alvin Gentry re-inserts Alexis Ajinca back into the rotation. Warren was used nearly exclusively as a scorer, recording just one rebound, while failing to record any assists, blocks, steals or turnovers, but that wasn’t necessarily to the detriment of the team.
Sure, the Clippers are in an obvious state of disarray right now, but going into a hostile environment and snapping a 13-game losing streak to a recent playoff regular is still a big accomplishment for this Jazz squad, particularly after coming off such a rough loss.
New Orleans is an underachieving 3-10 when it gives up 100 or more points.
