Anthony Johnson is looking to start another winning streak
But with former champ Jon Jones on his way back from suspension and a guaranteed fight for the title in his back pocket “Darth” has to win one more before getting the shot at the belt.
Light heavyweight contenders, Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader, are set to collide in the five-round main event of UFC on FOX 18 in January.
UFC on FOX 18 will take place in Newark, New Jersey, on January 30, 2016. The UFC announced the matchup on UFC Tonight yesterday.
Following the defeat to Cormier, the 31-year-old Johnson returned to his winning ways with a knockout victory of Jimi Manuwa in September.
The UFC is going all in on Cormier vs Jones 2.
This scenario must be incredibly frustrating for Ryan Bader.
For me, it looks like I’ve got to beat all these guys in the top five to get a shot.
Bader (20-4), victor of season eight of The Ultimate Figher, will be looking pick up his six straight win inside the octagon and seventh in his last eight bouts.
It will be interesting to see how this fight plays out. Although his neutralization-style striking has greatly improved, he is several leagues apart from “Rumble” on the feet.
“I don’t know why he would say he wants six months off; maybe he wants time to heal, spend more time with his family and train more and just flawless his craft – I don’t know”, Johnson said.
Johnson was very respectful of Cormier after falling to him at UFC 187, and the two have seemed to have a good relationship.
In addition to Bader vs. Johnson, a Welterweight showdown between Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine is also expected to appear on the FOX Sports-televised event.
