Anthony Kim hopes to backstroke his way to the Olympics
All eight days are already sold out, with more than 200,000 tickets snapped up.
Freeman, made her trials cut in the 400 individual medley last summer, and the anticipation has only built since then.
Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time – see how he earned his medals.
The Olympic roster isn’t the only spot up for grabs next week. The two top finishers in each individual event will make the U.S. Olympic Team.
In Omaha, there will be no bronze medals for coming third.
Eleven time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte smiles during a news conference at the U.S. Olympic team trials in Omaha, Neb., Friday, June 24, 2016.
It does happen. And the American swimmers who spoke to the media Friday said that as frustrating as global doping may be, they’re prepared to deal with it.
“I don’t feel like there’s any pressure to do well”, Johnson said.
Robbie accepted the friend’s invitation and quickly discovered that the pool was the best place for Tal to channel his energy. And he is definitely looking forward to a race or two more against Phelps, a rivalry that he said has been great for the sport.
She will compete in the 200-meter backstroke, 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley.
It’s been a big past year for Hein, who qualified for the Olympic trials after hitting the qualifying mark in 56.79 seconds for a first-place finish at the 2015 YMCA Long Course National Championships on August 5, 2015.
“I think every swimmer at some point has that Olympic dream, and this past summer for me was where it became more of a reality rather than just this idea”, Adams said.
The meeting will also feature a glittering golden supporting cast that includes Phelps’ great rival Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin, Katie Ledecky and Natalie Coughlin, bidding to become the most decorated USA female Olympian. Franklin’s times have been slightly slower than four years ago, and she’s not the top-ranked swimmer in her main events the 100 and 200 backstroke and 100 and 200 freestyles.
Missy Franklin won gold in the 100 and 200 backstroke in London and is back in those events, plus the 100 and 200 freestyle. “The process is the best part, and to see that pay off in the end is a really rewarding experience”, Lamparella said. She has kept the same primary events the last four years – 100m and 200m freestyles and 100m and 200m backstrokes.
After Cesar Cielo-the world record holder in the men’s 50-meter and 100-meter events-failed to qualify to swim in front of his countrymen in Brazil, Adrian and Dressel could have the inside track to top the podium if they can get past Omaha.
But there is much more to this United States of America swimming team than the Big Four, and Omaha next week will be a chance for new stars to shine.
Ledecky, still a teenager, could become the first U.S. woman to swim the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m at a single Olympic Games. “So if the training’s there it’s just a matter of getting it out in the water when we need to”.
In the men’s events, a more established star will be enjoying his moment in the spotlight next week.
Her surprise win in the 800m freestyle at the 2012 trials proved the springboard to Olympic gold in that event.
As well as Dressel, the trials will thrust into the spotlight a number of outperforming teenagers who look poised to lead the next generation of American swimming. “And just trying to get your hand on the wall first”.
In the women’s trials, 18-year-old distance specialist Becca Mann is another one to watch.
Three of them are former swimmers at UA, while one is a current student.
