Anti-abortion activist behind covert videos to be in Texas court
“Right now we’re waiting to see when the motion to dismiss will be filed”, he said. “That’s really what we’re after now”.
Daleiden was also charged with a misdemeanor count related to the purchase or sale of human organs.
Last Thursday, David Daleiden, producer of Planned Parenthood exposés implicating the abortion giant in the traffic of aborted baby parts, turned himself in to authorities after being indicted by a grand jury. Staff at the clinic rejected his offer, according to Dawn Laguens, executive vice president and chief experience officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
SAN FRANCISCO A US judge on Friday granted a preliminary injunction stopping the distribution of surreptitious videos taken by anti-abortion activists who alleged Planned Parenthood staff discussed the illegal sale of aborted fetal tissue.
“The videos speak for themselves, and they’re shocking”.
“We have not accepted that because we don’t believe she did anything wrong”, Staver said. He faces up to 20 years in prison and $10,000 in fines for the felony charge.
The pretrial diversion, also offered to Daleiden’s co-defendant and fellow activist Sandra Merritt, is the “right thing to do” and a common offer for first-time nonviolent offenders, Harris County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Jeff McShan said.
Should that fail, lawyers say they are ready to head to trial. Both are preparing to go to trial. “As a journalist, would you break the law to catch a bad person?”
Daleiden immediately posted a $3,000 bond and was released.
“The wheels of justice have only begun to roll”, Mr. Ferrero said. The man created the video in order to publicly criticized nonprofit.
In response to the videos, Texas and other Republican-controlled states tried to halt funding for Planned Parenthood.
Officials in twelve states (Nevada, Kansas, Florida, Ohio, Washington, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri and South Dakota) have concluded investigations into claims that Planned Parenthood profited from fetal tissue donation and each one has cleared Planned Parenthood of wrongdoing.
“This is a purely political issue and they don’t want to get involved in it, I’m sure”, he said.
Members of the House of Representatives have also formally called on the Speaker to end all congressional investigations into Planned Parenthood, even raising serious privacy concerns about the current investigation.
Defense attorneys also said the charges won’t stand up in court and have asked for the case to be dropped and the evidence to be resubmitted to another grand jury for possible charges against Planned Parenthood. Attorneys representing Daleiden and Merritt said there is a lot more to the story that is yet to unfold. The clinic said it never agreed to the offer.
