Anti-abortion activist indicted in Texas turns herself in
Schakowsky has frequently called for the disbanding of the committee.
“After the Planned Parenthood exclusion, there were estimated reductions in the number of claims from 1,042 to 672 (a reduction of 35.5 percent) for long-acting, reversible contraceptives and from 6,832 to 4,708 (a 31 percent reduction) for injectable contraceptives”, they wrote. He reportedly said “no more baby parts” to law enforcement following his arrest.
The public defunding of Planned Parenthood in Texas may have led to a decrease in highly effective forms of contraceptive services and an increase in Medicaid-paid childbirths among women who previously used injectable contraception, according to a peer-reviewed study by University of Texas at Austin researchers.
Five members of Congress, including Denver Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, are calling on their Republican colleagues to end the investigations into Planned Parenthood. Merritt and David Daleiden are charged with tampering with a governmental record, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Last week’s decision by a Houston Grand Jury not to indict Planned Parenthood for allegations of selling baby body parts, but instead brought felon indictment to two of the individuals who produced the doctored video that falsely accused Planned Parenthood’s staff of selling body parts has rattled those individuals and politicians who seek to destroy Planned Parenthood. “We’ve substantially grown our provider network”, Nelson said.
The grand jury that indicted the two on January 25 also investigated Planned Parenthood but concluded it committed no wrongdoing.
“The charges against David Daleiden are legally and factually baseless”, Peter Breen, a lawyer representing Daleiden said in a statement.
What happens when you boot Planned Parenthood out of a preventative health program? “Initiatives to exclude medically qualified providers of family planning and other women’s health services if they are affiliated in any way with abortion providers have been adopted or proposed in 17 U.S. states and both houses of the U.S. Congress. Supporters of these proposals claim that other providers can meet the needs of women served by Planned Parenthood clinics”. The felony charge of tampering with government records relates to their alleged use of false IDs, and the misdemeanor charge of attempting to buy fetal remains seemingly overlooks the fact that Daleiden and Merritt were only posing as buyers to expose what they believed was illegal conduct by others. “Governor Abbott and Attorney General Paxton need to send a strong message that Houston’s children are not for sale, and they must immediately appoint a special prosecutor to hold Planned Parenthood accountable to the law”.
Women who use injectable hormones must come to an office every three months to get a new injection.
Sandra Merritt appeared in a Houston courtroom Wednesday and posted bond, which was reduced from $10,000 to $2,000.
