Antonio Conte hints at more signings
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a happy man, having watched his team cruise to a 3-0 victory over Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
After opening the scoring with just nine minutes played by surging down the left on the counter-attack and curling home from 20 yards, the mercurial Hazard was the central attacking figure in a tactically astute display from Chelsea.
The win maintained Chelsea’s 100 per cent start to the season and put them top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City’s fixtures. His goal against Burnley – the Belgium international’s second in four games – was reminiscent of those he scored in 2014-15, charging at the defence before despatching a perfectly placed strike beyond Tom Heaton’s dive.
Chelsea had their second in the 42nd minute, however, when Costa found Willian in a wide position and the Brazilian took a touch outside his full-back before drilling the ball across Heaton into the corner of the net.
However, the former Lille player appears to have rediscovered his mojo.
“I think Eden is a fantastic player like the others, and is working very well with great attitude”, the Italian said in his post-match media conference.
“After the first day I saw his will to work to find a good shape early on – but his performance can improve”, the gaffer added.
Conte said: “Starting the season with three league wins and a win in the cup is good, for the confidence of the players, the fans, for the club, for me”.
“I’ve seen the right attitude from all the players”.
“I also can tell Eden his performance can improve a lot but I’m please for his commitment, and work rate”.
“When we start in this way you can work better and also the players can trust the work more”.
He thought it was 13 games since Blues last kept a clean sheet – GWL counts 12 all the way back to 4-0 over Aston Villa on April 2.
Meanwhile, Burnley manager Sean Dyche knows he needs to move quickly in a very hard transfer market to prevent his side losing heavily at places like Stamford Bridge in future.
