Antonio Conte ‘pleased’ Chelsea fans changed lyrics to offensive Alvaro Morata song
Antonio Conte reflected on a “good day” for his Chelsea side after they cruised to a 4-0 win at Stoke on Saturday.
Hughes will be relieved his makeshift defence does not have to contend with Diego Costa, who arrived in Spain on Friday to complete his impending move to Atletico Madrid. “It means we have created chances for the striker to score, it happened last season, and it will happen again this season”. They won’t have home pitch advantage over Stoke, but they’ve recently proved their ability of winning away from home. This was why he played for Real Madrid and Juventus.
The Blues forward scored three goals in his opening five Premier League games to make a positive start to his Chelsea career.
The stand-in backline was exposed as early as the second minute when Cesar Azpilicueta’s long ball forward released Morata clean through on goal, and the Spaniard tucked his finish into the bottom corner for his fourth Premier League goal of the season. Costa is likely to be watching his replacement from the stands at the Wanda Metropolitano. Stayed the course despite a heavy fall midway through the second half.
But the Spanish wing-back escaped with a final warning from referee Mike Dean.
Alonso could have had no complaints had he been shown a second yellow, but Conte was not prepared to take any chances with Chelsea due to face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge next Saturday.
“I think for Alvaro it’s the right moment to have this situation, to be the striker in a great team”, Conte said.
Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger formed a central back three alongside Azpilicueta, with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso to the left and right, respectively, and Gary Cahill settling for a place on the bench.
The defending champions are now in third place in the league table!
Travis Tyler: 3-0. Alvaro Morata gets a bit miffed that Michy Batshuayi has more goals than him and goes on a rampage. Chelsea’s record £60 million signing is rapidly repaying his transfer fee.
Chelsea wrapped up victory with 12 minutes remaining thanks to more awful Stoke defending and another fine Morata finish.
Stoke only managed two efforts on target throughout but had plenty of possession and looked increasingly risky after the interval as they looked to play a more direct style.
Pedro scored the other goal as Chelsea took advantage of a lackluster Stoke display to cruise to an easy win at Britannia Stadium.
