Anupam Kher Says ‘Denied Visa’ By Pakistan, Official Says He Never Applied
“Out of 18 participants, 17 were given a visa and I was denied”.
Anupam Kher, who was supposed to attend Karachi Literature Festival on February 5 has been denied a visa by Pakistan and he is disappointed by the same.
According to a report in an Indian website, the Pakistani High Commission said his review was still under review.
He added that Anupam Kher seems to be unaware of the current process as he has not showed the acknowledgment slip. Commenting on the same Manzoor Ali Memon, the spokesperson for the Pakistan High Commission claimed that Kher has not submitted a visa application.
While 17 other people, including Salman Khurshid and Nandita Das were granted visa, Kher was singled out by the Pakistan Government. “Pl check out from him if he has any receipt”.
“We welcome their artistes in India”.
“I am not contesting the government’s decision of conferring him with the award, but the only thing I want to know is the credentials that I lacked for it (the award)”, Khan said.
Kher was one of the 18 Indians invited to the four-day festival by the organisers but he is the only one whose visa has not been cleared. “I am wondering if it is because I am a Kashmiri Pandit or because of my views on the tolerance debate in India”.
