AP analysis: Trump silent in ads, Clinton talks up children
Obama’s anointed Democratic successor is the favorite to win the election, but Trump appears to have closed in with just a week to go until polling day.
First, the Republican nominee will speak in Atkison, NH at 12 pm ET. The new poll shows Clinton standing at 47 per cent support, compared to Trump’s 45 per cent, among likely voters.
Then he’ll be in Wilmington, OH at 4 pm ET.
Not all pollsters got the European Union referendum wrong – some got it spot on – but averaging out the final results of all the polls, they predicted a win for Remain by 2.5%.
“Her election would mire our government and our country in a constitutional crisis that we can not afford”, Trump declared in Grand Rapids, pointing to the FBI’s renewed examination of Clinton’s email practices as evidence the former secretary of state might face a criminal trial as president. The dollar was also hit, plunging to three weeks low versus the euro and one month low against the swiss frank as US 10-year treasury yields fell 7 basis points from yesterday’s highs. At the same time, Clinton allies are speaking directly to black voters in a new advertising campaign running in Ohio, North Carolina and Florida.
Donald Trump served as his own coach during a Wednesday night campaign rally in Pensacola, Florida, telling himself aloud not to get off-message.
Hillary Clinton, who also campaigned Wednesday in Florida, makes a stop in Las Vegas later in the day.
While Trump’s children, Eric and Ivanka Trump, hit the trail Thursday, his wife, Melania, made her first speech in months.
Trump wants to force North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members to pay their fair share of the protection that they are receiving from the US but also work with other nations, like Russian Federation, to combat terrorism in the Middle East and around the globe. The FBI’s continued investigation of Clinton’s email practices, he said, has not changed the fundamentals of an election that has long favored Clinton.
And so Clinton, in the tell-tale hoarseness of a candidate who’s had to pack her schedule in the last seven days before the election, railed against her rival with renewed urgency. No one knows what might pop up next to shake up the race, but it is sensible to assume that something will.
Hot Air has the theory that this is a ploy to turn out more women for Hillary, the theory being that they will be turned off more from Trump’s boorish behavior than by Clinton’s absolute corruption. Trump urged early voters who may have already cast a ballot for Hillary Clinton to reconsider, in the wake of Clinton’s latest email issues.
“I do think that there is a norm that when there are investigations, we don’t operate on innuendo, we don’t operate on incomplete information, we don’t operate on leaks”, Obama said in an interview with online news outlet NowThis. Clinton’s numbers, as reported in recent campaign filings, tripled those of Trump and the national and state Republican parties.
While Trump has devoted perhaps his most valuable resource – his time – to Florida, Clinton has built a powerful ground game, backed by a dominant media presence, that dwarfs her opponent’s. Trump has also promised good relations between India and the U.S., saying, “I am a big fan of Hindu and I am a big fan of India”.
