Apple acquires powerful iOS automation app Workflow, makes it available for free
Typically these acquisitions are as much about the talent behind the app as they are about the app itself, which often means that the app gets shut down.
The technology giant bought the popular Workflow app and its small team of four employees, TechCrunch reported late Wednesday evening.
Apple, in its own statement, praised the app not just for its design and inherent value, but for its use among individuals with vision impairments.
Workflow 1.7 offers Magic Variables that provide easier more powerful visual automation. Its colorful drag-and-drop interface lets you to connect features of your favorite apps together, allowing for a kind of interoperability between apps that Apple historically hasn’t been so hot on.
It’s hard to say how Apple’s ownership will change the app otherwise, since Apple typically folds third-party tech into new or existing internally developed projects (TestFlight, a developer beta distribution app purchased back in 2014, is one counterexample).
If you are not aware of what the app is capable of doing, it is an automation app for iOS, which lets users connect apps and create quick shortcuts.
There is no information on what Apple plans to do with Workflow as of now.
A live titles function allows the user to add animated captions and titles which are generated automatically as they speak, appearing on-screen in sync with their voice. The company has made the app free to download, letting any iOS user give it a try.
As part of the deal, Workflow’s creators – ex iPhone jailbreaker Ari Weinstein, Conrad Kramer, and Nick Frey – will be joining Apple, according to TechCrunch. Susan Prescott the vice president Apple’s Apps and Product Marketing stated that the filters, effects and the incredible new Live Titles that come with Clip, allow anyone to develop awesome looking and easily sharable videos in just a couple of taps.
He continued: “We can’t wait to take our work to the next level at Apple and contribute to products that touch people across the world”.
