Apple aims to make Apple Watch more engaging

The new Watch comes with a speaker that is able to eject any water that gets inside the speaker grill.

Apple has also introduced a Watch Series 1 variant, which is priced at $299.

Fortunately, that’s already a great looking wearable, just as long as you’re OK with the square form factor. However, there have been some notable changes beneath its hood, which Apple detailed during its presentation. The display is now 1000 nits which is exceptionally bright. Overall the new Apple Watch Series 2 has some nice improvements though we hoped for a new design as well.

Apple shipped its first watch in April 2015, hoping for a new blockbuster product amid slowing iPhone sales, which contribute more than 60 percent of the Cupertino, California-based company’s annual revenue. The new Watch now includes a Global Positioning System receiver of its own, opening up new ways to use the device that don’t rely on a companion iPhone.

That’s a huge deal, especially if you’re now rocking or considering a fitness band.

Ending round-the-clock rumours that had sent the world of technology into a tizzy for quite some time now, Apple on Wednesday unveiled its stunning iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus along with next-generation “Apple Watch Series 2” at the jam-packed Bill Graham Civic Auditorium here.

I think I’m going to sit this one out, but if you have an iPhone 6 or earlier should be excited. The hardware evolution might be incremental, but this summer Apple detailed its significant overhauls of how it works, streamlining and simplifying WatchOS in ways that should make the device feel brand new in use, even if familiar at a glance. The aluminium sport version of the Apple Watch Series 2 as well as the Nike+ edition will start at $369.

The second generation of Apple Watch will come with an S2 chip, which includes a dual-core processor and new graphics processor – which Apple said will offer twice the graphics performance of the previous Apple Watch. The watch is water resistant for upto 50 meters deep and its redesigned speakers can let the water out on their own, once you are done with cavorting in the water. The fitness app on the Apple Watch has two new settings for swimmers: one for laps in a pool and one for open water swimming.

Nike is also getting in on the game with a new Apple Watch Nike+ version which is geared towards the fitness enthusiasts among us. The Nike+ version will also be $369 but coming later in October.
