Apple announces new iPhone XS and huge 6.5 inch XS Max

Apple says Canadians will be able to pre-order the iPhone Xr on Friday, October 19 at 12:01AM PDT/3:01AM EDT.

Other analysts have slightly different prices-$699, $969 and $1,069-but all are banking on Apple to raise prices again and deliver more revenue in the year ahead.

We’ll start with the XS.

So, when can you get your shakingly impatient hands on Apple’s latest trio of phones? A12 Bionic features a six-core fusion architecture with two performance cores that are up to 15 percent faster, four efficiency cores that are up to 50 percent more efficient, a four-core GPU that is up to 50 percent faster, powerful Apple-designed Image Signal Processor (ISP), video encoder and more. It has an improved dual camera (still arranged vertically) with adjustable depth of field. But the short story is that the iPhone XS Max has pretty much the same specs as the regular iPhone XS, except it’s bigger.

The iPhone Xs Max, pronounced like “tennis max”, might just as well be read as “excess max”.

The iPhone XR has debuted with a 6.1in screen and a brand new all-screen liquid retina display (“the most colour accurate in the industry”) along with an all-new advanced single camera system.

The Max is the Xs’ bigger brother. Fine. But I still don’t need a smart watch. The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch (14.7-cm) screen, the same as the original Apple handset. There will also be 128GB and 256GB models.

Apple didn’t invent this big phone fashion. That’s right, the next generation of iPhones all feature edge-to-edge screens without the familiar circle at the bottom to guide you back to the home screen.

With two of them starting at $999 or higher in the United States, Apple appears to be taking advantage of a strong US economy, low unemployment, and rising household wealth.

It’s supposed to speed up your whole phone (like opening your camera app or typing on the keyboard).

There are some new tools to monitor how much time you spend looking at your phone and some tweaks to how notifications display.

It can also detect when you fall by calculating wrist trajectory and other movements and can send that data to an emergency contact.
