Apple App Store, Apple Music, iTunes hit by disruption – Technology & Science
As if the fickle gods of IT wanted to rub salt in the wound, the outages came when Beats1 DJs were busy announcing this year’s nominations for MTV’s Video Music Awards. Hundreds of thousands of listeners in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom have been knocked offline. Beats 1 only launched as part of Apple Music last month, and the radio station also has the tagline “Worldwide”.
In March, several Apple services, including iCloud backup, the App Store, and iTunes and iBooks, went down for a day without explanation.
The issues started 2:45 PM (BST) and have been ongoing for two hours.
It would not be the first time an exclusive deal was hit with major traffic.
Some users complained to us about Apple Music randomly playing tracks related to previous searches, while others told us how iTunes on their computer was being slow to work.
In a note on the firm’s official System Status page which flagged the troubled services, Apple said it will “update the status as more information becomes available”.
