Apple China to replace faulty iPhone 6s batteries for free
You can take your device either to an official Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider or contact Apple Technical Support to get things started. Apple says that any iPhone 6s owner whose device is experiencing these shutdowns will be entitled to a free battery replacement. Owners of the iPhone 6 have also reported the same problem on their phones and may not get the repairs, as Apple announced that they will only be servicing iPhone 6 Plus units. Dubbed “Touch Disease”, it’s the number one complaint at the Apple Stores, representing about 11% of all iPhone issues.
In August, the Mercury News reported that iPhone 6 Plus users and fix technicians believed the problem appeared to derive from the failure of chips or solder joints inside the phone.
If you are eligible for the battery replacement you’ll need to make sure your phone isn’t damaged in any other way before Apple can do the update.
The problem has been dubbed “Touch Disease” by the iFixit fix advocacy group after it found the faulty chips became loose in August.
Whatever it is, a class action lawsuit is about to kick off in California.
