Apple Cuts ‘iPhone 6s Price’ in India Due to Bad Sales
New Delhi, Dec.22: Mobile major Apple has slashed prices of its latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus by up to 16 percent in India.
With the reduction in prices, the price gap between iPhone 6 devices launched in 2014 and the ones launched in 2015 has reduced significantly.
All versions of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will fall in the price range of Rs 55,000 to Rs 92,000, reports The Economic Times. Best Buy is not offering any discount on the 64 GB and 128 GB variants of the iPhone 6S. The models were approximately Rs 14,000-Rs 16,000 more than those available in other markets such as US, Middle East and Hong Kong, raising concerns that demand would be hurt. The 128GB version has seen a pretty steep price cut as well and is now available for Rs.74,940 ($1131).
Apple apparently needs to be more price competitive in India, the world’s third largest smartphone market behind China and the US. The iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus have all got nearly a 15 per cent cut, according to a national retailers.
The higher prices have not only dissuaded new iPhone buyers in India.
The site of Amazon India has listed the iPhone 6s (Rose Gold, 16GB) at Rs 47,999 and the product is in stock.
Apparently, Apple struck a chord by equipping the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with a pressure-sensitive screen.
Apple is largely dependent on iPhones for its revenue and rightly so as they accounted for 66 per cent of fiscal fourth-quarter revenue this year, versus 54 per cent in the same quarter a year earlier. Analysts said the price cut could re-ignite iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus demand in the coming months. Sales have been bad ever since Diwali, and the Christmas season and the New year are the only two opportunies for Apple to make a come back after seeing sales took a hit after Diwali.
Apple did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.
