Apple Developing Wireless-Charging Phone
But in 2017, according to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple might start adding an advanced type of wireless charging – one that works over a distance – to its gadgets. Unidentified sources revealed that Apple is working on creating technologies that would allow both the iPhones and iPads to be charged using the new wireless technology.
Apple is now overcoming technical barriers and assessing other aspects of the new charging scheme. However, Apple has yet to embrace wireless charging for its iPhones.
It is possible that the new iPhone would rely on wireless headphones and wireless charging to keep things interesting.
Now the problem with this kind of technology is, the farther you are, the less efficient it is and the longer the charging time becomes.
Battery recharging technologies remain a key concern of device vendors, of course, and heavyweights such as Google and Samsung have pursued wireless charging for years. The new technology is going to use NFMR, Near-End Magnetic Resonance, which will enable a device to charge from as far as 3 feet (approximately 1 meter) away. However, whether or not the technology will be implemented is yet to be ascertained, Bloomberg reported. Current devices with wireless charging capabilities, including the Apple Watch, require constant contact with a pad or mat to draw the power needed to charge the device. This allows wireless-power to charge a metallic phone safely without the radio waves getting blocked.
OK, back to the good stuff: The outlet cites sources “familiar with the plans” who claim Apple is working on a wireless charging solution that could be a step above current offerings.
The iPhone 7 is expected to arrive in September alongside the bigger-screened iPhone 7 Plus.
