Apple encourages prospective iPhone X buyers to “arrive early” on Friday
But the company now appears to be so desperate to get the iPhone X to market on time that it gave suppliers the liberty to reduce the accuracy of the Face ID facial recognition technology to make it easier for them to manufacture the handset, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
Although the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus went on sale on September 22, strong buying vaulted Apple into the top position in the sales volume rankings after placing second in August, the sources said.
Separately, a report from Nikkei claims that the initial shipments of the iPhone X are expected to be around 20 million units, only half of what was planned for this year.
In a note to investors on Tuesday, GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives said that he expects worldwide iPhone X pre-orders to top 40 million units. Various features make it stand out from the rest of the range, including its edge-to-edge 5.8-inch screen, its Face ID technology and the option of wireless charging.
Apple has now commented on the matter, stating that the iPhone X will be in Apple stores, but adds that customers should arrive early as there will not be enough stock for everyone.
iPhone X is coming on November 3.
Apple also gave a breakdown of the countries and territories that will have iPhone X stock available in store at launch. In preparation for the event, Apple has already fixed up its online store by adding a page exclusively devoted to the first iPhone to offer an OLED display. The company’s rabid supporters are notorious for camping out in front of Apple Stores for days ahead of iPhone launches.
Both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus got a cost cut after the dispatch of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, in this way prompting increased deals. Reliance Jio offered a 70 per cent buy back guarantee with the purchase of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
Apple might have a big iPhone X supply problem.
The “head start” only appears to apply to customers that are already members of the iPhone Upgrade Programme, not new ones joining after the pre-order boost launched.
Known for his candor, Wozniak said he is happy with the iPhone 8, according to CNBC.
