Apple engineer fired as daughter’s iPhone X video goes viral
“Apple asked me to take it down and I took it down right when they asked me to because I respect Apple”.
Peterson claimed her father has been fired as a result of her video, making the announcement in a video (seen below) published in the aftermath. But then, before she could remove the video, it went viral and was reported by several publications across the globe already.
Though the iPhone X is on the cusp of being publicly available, it’s entirely possible that the unit he had – which Peterson showed off in the video – was a pre-production unit.
A seemingly innocent hands-on video of the iPhone X apparently got an Apple engineer fired. Despite that restriction, the video which Peterson uploaded was so easy to make. However, in the end of the video, she visited her father in Apple Campus Cupertino for the dinner. Filming on Apple’s campus is strictly prohibited, so filming an unreleased iPhone X is a definite rule violation.
Apple, known for its strict code of secrecy and conduct, expects all its employees to be tight-lipped about its business strategies and developments.
Per the Verge, YouTuber Brooke Amelia Peterson says her father lost his job as an Apple engineer after she recorded a short video showing off the device’s design and a few features such as the Cover Sheet notification screen and Animoji. She said it was here she made a YouTube video of the smartphone, released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. However, the mistake was already done and, before she can do anything, his father was sacked from the job. She understands that her father broke a rule and advises all of her viewers to follow rules whether it be at home, in the workplace, or at school.
Peterson’s father can be heard saying in the original video that “I did the Apple Pay on that phone, so I wanted to test it”.
