Apple finally caves, launches $99 battery extension pack
It is the only chink in the armour of the iPhone.
Low battery is the bane of every smartphone user, especially those with iPhones, and Apple has just released its first battery case for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 to tackle the problem.
If you’re unimpressed with your iPhone’s battery life, Apple has a quick – and expensive – solution.
So why is Apple releasing this accessory when third-party accessory makers are doing a fine job?
Unlike most battery cases available today, this one is charged via Apple’s standard Lightning cable.
Unlike popular third party layouts that effectively double iPhone’s sleek profile, like the Juice Pack of Mophie, Apple made a decision to stuff the outside battery right into a tiny hump.
Also, where’s the iPhone 6s Plus version?
This brings you extra power when the battery light glows red and you can’t get near a plug.
Apple does not pin down precise battery capacity advice, but claims speak times can grow up browsing up to 18 hours, and video and sound playback up to 20 hours.
This case also slips on to the iPhone like any regular case and doesn’t need to be dismantled and re-assembled like other battery packs sold in the market.
The US iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case is the first sign that Apple is ready to acknowledge that its phones are too thin to contain adequate batteries. When in use, the battery case shows an intelligent battery status on the lock screen and the notification shade. All in all, it looks pretty similar to Apple’s current cases, although, of course, with that extra bump on the back and chin on the bottom.
