Apple has another smart idea for waterproofing iPhones
Of course it’s also not as if ever patent spotted ever materialises in the flesh, but when it comes to something as important as water-proofing…well, let’s just say it’s been a long time coming.
Those materials possess the power to fix themselves. However, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, owners are discovering, are at least water-resistant, although Apple did not advertise that feature. The technology is believed to be seen fully operational in the next generation iPhone.
“The self-healing elastomer may obscure the electronic connectors from the user as well as provide environmental protection for the connector and the electronic device”, reads the abstract for the application.
Apple has reportedly filed a patent for an “electronic device with hidden connector“.
Other reports on features of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus suggest both devices will continue using the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays present on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Ultimately, what this could result in is a completely waterproof iPhone which could be dunked in water without fear.
According to The Verge, certain varieties of elastomer are capable of keeping out a variety of substances, including dust, dirt, water and gas, meaning future iterations of the iPhone could be a lot more durable than their predecessors. This is surprising to some as Apple, Inc. has never made any marketing of this in any of their presentations about their devices. If the iPhone 7 were to be waterproof, it surely wouldn’t make it the first phone to go down that road. It is also being said that Apple is developing the A10 processor for its next flagship.
There’s no way of telling whether this invention will be used in the iPhone 7 or subsequent models.
