Apple has the courage to revolutionise the paper bag
The patent has not yet been granted to Apple yet, though this is a genuine attempt by Apple to create something using recyclable materials. And not just any patent. Now, it takes us to a more interesting level – a paper bag. Only the adhesive used for sticking the bag together, is not made of paper.
Apple unveiled a bunch of new technology and inventions at its keynote event earlier this month, but it would seem that the tech giant’s most groundbreaking innovation is yet to come: Behold, the Bag.
The Cupertino, Calif. -based company submitted a patent application last week for those white, rectangular shopping bags made from bleached sulfate paper.
“This can help to reduce any environmental impact from production, use, and disposal of the bag”, Apple contends in the filing.
“To effect this feel and flexibility, the handle may be formed of knitted paper fibers in a tight-knit pattern with a large diameter”.
The bag in question looks decidedly like any other Apple store bag, except the drawings don’t show Apple’s logo on either side. This time, they are in the process of reinventing the “paper bag”. The handles behave like textile, and fold along the profile of the bag, to prevent interference with anything placed around the bag. This would make the bag structurally weaker, which is why it is getting reinforced in all the points that are likely to be stressed. “The following disclosure relates to a bag, such as a retail shopping bag”, it says.
Apple has also been known to be a leader in innovating unique designs, therefore many are anticipating on the design of the “bag” too.
The patent application goes on to describe the addition of reinforcement inserts to increase the strength of the bag.
As explained by Apple, bleached bags tend to get weaker the more recycled paper is added to them.
