Apple Introduces “Shopping” Section in the App Store Starting November 5

Is it everything it’s cracked up to be? We’ve had a few hands-on time with the 32GB model and here’s what we found.

There are a number of things that Apple TV does well, and a few signs of the intuitiveness the company is known for. Now your Apple TV will be easy to spot as an AirPlay device by your iOS devices.

Now that a new Shopping category is introduced, this could help boost the discoverability and download of apps that devote to mobile shopping.

The Apple TV has been a kind of Trojan horse (in the traditional sense, nothing to do with malware). On the launch of the new category, Apple has featured collections of deals and themes for shopping apps, which include Save While You Shop for deals and discounts, Shop for Everything to offer options across a variety of themes like Gifts, Groceries, and more.

What’s in the box?

According to Tech Crunch, the new Shopping category on the iOS App Store will be released worldwide. It supports 802.11ac Wi Fi, which offers faster streaming compared to the older model. (Peck!) I mentioned that this new Apple TV connects to your phone automatically, right? If you double-click the Siri button the focused content will be spoken to you while Zoom is on.

Moreover, App Store apps were using a third-party advertising SDK that allowed the third-party to harvest users’ information without their consent (e.g. email addresses, device ID, apps that were installed on the device, etc.) and to route it to its company server. But how do the two new devices stack up against each other?

You can’t sell 25 million units of a product and get away with calling it a pastime. A heavy-fingered approach can have you flying past menu items and accidentally selecting Afghanistan instead of Australia for region.

The Siri remote is also one attraction that the new “Apple TV” comes with. You soon get the hang of it, because the touchpad is integral to many Apple TV functions. But the Apple TV’s Siri Remote is the hardware that delivers that capability. Though they both allow you to watch content on your TV, their way of doing so couldn’t be more different. You can stop a show by saying “Pause”, ask for films by studio, ask questions about stock and more. One of my favourite things to do is tell Siri I want to watch a show and have it show me all of the places I can stream it from, whether it be iTunes or elsewhere. Apple has long hung its hat on the fact that while Android has more apps, many are, well, crappy.
