Apple iPhone 7 causes wireless headphones sales to soar
Removing the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone 7 has been widely regarded as a bad idea, but Apple appears dead-set on compounding its error by making adapters for the iPhone expensive and annoying to deal with. “We expect those who are already on iPhones to make up the majority who will purchase the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus”.
iPhone 7 users can now listen to music while charging with Belkin’s double Lightning port adapter.
What if your phone is low on juice and you want to keep listening to music while you charge? The Apple-only W1 wireless standard is said to automagically – er, automatically – pair with the new iPhone models if you simply place them nearby.
According to Apple Insider, Steve Malony, VP, GM of Belkin is excited to provide people with “an easy way to charge and listen on the go”.
The Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar will be available to purchase from Apple’s retail stores and Belkin’s website on Monday, October 10.
However doing so means that you’ll lose several of the unique services that you’d get with Apple devices, as you won’t be able to use Siri or use the proximity pairing feature.
This was on the global site but the changes were also reflected on the India site, leading to speculations that Apple has discontinued these phones. You could still owe more if your phone is damaged; while Apple includes its AppleCare service program, which covers two damage “incidents”, it will charge you $29 for screen damage and $99 for any other damage, plus tax. Because they’re wireless, you charge them by putting them into the case.
You need to use this Lightning Dock.
You’d have to be sodding courageous to don Airpods, such is the risk of losing the $159 device. We’ll get a better idea of the finer points of what these new toys sound like when they’re released in the wild. This might just be the beginning of the end for the headphone jack.
