Apple is reportedly testing more than 10 iPhone 8 prototypes
According to the report, LG Innotek is exclusively supplying its dual cameras for iPhone 7, unveiled in Korea in October. While that’s a fairly significant swing in Apple’s favor, 2016’s results don’t manage to rise above the 7.7% the iPhone grabbed in 2013 or the 8.6% it had in 2014.
The news comes from sources “close to the situation” whose credentials remain undisclosed.
Reports are showing that Apple is in talks with LG, the company who develops the Innotek 3D camera technology. You can buy either the Black, Rose Gold, Gold, and Silver iPhone 7 (32GB) for just $1 and save $198.99 that Apple is charging. In fact, it’s precisely this technology that Apple leveraged to offer its much touted ‘Portrait Mode’. The launch of curved phones with OLED screens, which have already been adopted by other phone manufacturers, might help reinvigorate consumer demand for the product. Early rumors suggest that in addition to an edge-to-edge, high-resolution OLED display with Touch ID built into the screen, the next-gen iPhone will feature a glass enclosure and wireless charging, among other changes. Kuo also says that the iPhone 8 would come in bezel-less OLED version and there could be a 5.8 version as the new flagship device.
On the other hand, there’s still a chance that we won’t see an OLED iPhone in 2017, since that is just one of “more than 10” prototypes that Apple is now testing.
It is no secret that the web has been awash with rumors about the iPhone 8’s quality and Apple’s plans for a renewed launch of the iPhone 7.
Since the technology requires dual camera lenses, don’t expect to see this show up on the 4.7-inch iPhone. But as you might imagine from the name, Cyber Monday is one of a few times in the year that it’s worth your while to hunt for Apple deals.
Last month, Sharp’s CEO Tai Jeng-wu said, “We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation”, “It is a crisis but it is also an opportunity”, he added.
The curved smartphone screen is nothing new.
“We think the market believes that the reduction in viewable metal area implies a lower ASP”, writes Chang. Otherwise because of the more expensive OLED screens the actual price might be affected which in turn might make it hard for Apple to make a massive profit.
