Apple is sponsoring the 2016 Met Gala
It has been confirmed that the 2016 Met Gala will take place in the Big Apple on Monday the 2nd of May, and a few big names have been announced as co-chairs.
Earlier in the year (May 4th to be exact), the theme was ‘China: “Through the Looking Glass”.
Elsewhere in the fashion world, Swift will appear on Vogue Australia’s November 2015 cover, which hits newsstands on October 19. “There are instances where technology is optimized, but ultimately it’s the amount of care put into the craftsmanship, whether it’s machine-made or hand-made, that transforms ordinary materials into something extraordinary”.
There’s no denying that the Met Gala is one fashion event worth clearing your calendar for. Techniques like embroidery, pleating, and lacework will be juxtaposed with technologies like laser cutting and thermo shaping.
And seeing as her squad is equipped with a model crew, including Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt, Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss, it’s no surprise that Swift is getting even more involved with the fashion world.
“The Costume Institute’s spring 2016 exhibition will explore the impact of new technology on fashion, and how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear”. There will also be workshops like 3D printing where the guests can see the designs take shape.
The blonde will be joined as co-chair by Anna Wintour, Idris Elba and Jonathan Ive. With Mr. Ive scheduled to appear at the New York fashion event of 2016, Apple’s decision to sponsor the event and have a representative co-chair will serve as a promotional platform for the tech giant.
Honorary chairs for the star-studded evening include Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld, and Miuccia Prada. “This distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other”, he said in the announcement.
