Apple launches largest ever iPhone
That is, in everything except the names. However there are new Android phones with similar or better specifications that sell for considerably less than the 2017 iPhone 8, and Android has a higher market share in Australia than iPhone. We’re talking some small upgrades on last year’s iPhone X model (which at the time was billed as “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone”).
Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks at the company’s event in Cupertino, at which updated iPhones and a new smartwatch were unveiled.
Like their predecessor, the iPhone X, the name is meant to be pronounced as the number 10.
As a result, many have pointed out that it sounds much like “excess” and ‘excess Max’.
‘The iPhone Xs Max price reflects the name.,’ Twitter user @juhasaarinen wrote. Except for that little notch at the top for the facial recognition camera, the Max screen runs to the top and bottom edges of the phone. We don’t have much information on the specifications here other than the new dual-CPU is 64-bit capable and is promised to perform twice as fast as it’s predecessors – which used Arm’s Cortex A7. For example, users can try out the new depth-of-field control image editing feature, which lets you bring the background of any given image in and out of focus after it’s already been taken. There aren’t many differences between the two models: the screen is Apple’s biggest ever at 6.5in, the display resolution is higher (2,688 x 1,242), the battery is slightly larger – presumably to accommodate that massive screen – and naturally, it’s more expensive. From our experience, the iPhone 8 Plus can last longer than the iPhone X on a single charge, so the iPhone XR could be the best model for battery life.
The device will be available in stores September 21.
The iPhone XS Max’s display size is 26 per cent larger than the previous largest iPhone display, marking it the largest increase in screen size since 2014, wrote analyst Gene Munster of Loup Ventures in a note.
Interestingly it’s got a bigger screen than the XS, coming in a 6.1 inches.
In addition to dropping those iPhone models, Apple also appears to be backing away from AirPower, the wireless-charging product it announced a year ago – it seems to have removed almost all mentions of AirPower from its site.
While online sentiment was mixed, an obvious key focus was the high price tag – also a target of criticism around the launch of the iPhone X a year ago. Both will come in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB sizes. “Apple seems to be diving into heart disease first, the most common cause of death around the world, making serious moves as a health company”. But that kind of real-time processing requires massive computing power, which the rest of us will find pretty useful when playing a favorite online game, or editing vacation videos.
The flying elephant of the new lot is the iPhone Xs Max, which sounds like it could be a new flavor of Mountain Dew, or perhaps an extreme sport.
