Apple Launches New Clean Energy Programs In China
China is home to Apple’s major supply chain manufacturers.
Another 8.5 million people are on an 8-month trial, Cook said. “This is addressing the biggest piece of the pie for the impact of their products”. The company wants to offset the carbon footprint of its component suppliers in China with the hope of cutting carbon emissions that are attributed to its business.
Apple’s announcement was threefold.
Apple also said that it has completed the construction of solar projects worth 40 megawatts in China’s Sichuan province. The company gave no deadlines. “We hope that many other suppliers, partners and other companies join us in this important effort”.
As part of the plan, Apple is also launching a new initiative to drive its manufacturing partners to become more energy efficient.
The company will use a combination of solar, wind and hydropower energy production technologies. Earlier this year Apple announced a partnership with WWF to reduce the impact of its packaging needs on Chinese forests. “But for their own suppliers, that’s pretty unique”. Worldwide, the company powers 87 percent of its operations. That may be disputed but what Apple can boast is music experts who have programmed playlists. However, following its June launch, the $9.99 per month service amassed eleven million trial members only a month after launch.
Apple provided little detail about how its novel solar-supplier arrangements will work. The solar panels to be built by 2018 in China’s Henan Province are supposed to produce as much renewable energy as Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory consumes while making iPhones.
Czarina Cabuyadao, account manager at the Hoffman Agency, told PRWeek Asia that Apple’s plans are strategic and sustainable, rather than being simply an attempt to address any negativity associated with the brand in China.
What are your thoughts on Apple Music? In February, the iPhone maker said it would buy about $850 million of power from a new California solar farm to cut its energy bill and supply electricity for its new campus in Silicon Valley as well as other offices and stores.
And there’s another factor, as well. He added that the most forward-thinking ones are thinking of getting the first-mover advantage.
Another is the emerging carbon-trading market in China, which was unveiled just last month and is due to begin as soon as next year.
Tech giant Apple says it has big news.
