Apple making it easier “to switch from iOS to Android”
According to The Telegraph’s “senior industry source”, Apple has privately agreed to help consumers shift contacts, music and photos if they move to Android from iOS.
Facing tough pressure from a number of mobile operators, Apple is reportedly working on coming up with a tool that will allow users make a switch from iPhone to an Android-based smartphone should they feel like moving away from Apple devices.
Apple is developing a tool that will allow customers transfer data from their iPhone to Google’s Android, according to The Telegraph. Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, once put fuel to this fire when he suggested his company “further lock customers” into the company’s ecosystems, but that was several years ago when the Android war first began.
If consumers don’t want to switch because they see it as a hassle, it could give Apple an unfair advantage when it comes to commercial negotiations with network operators.
If the tool under development is made available, it would represent a significant shift for the American giant.
Accessories like the Apple Watch, which only works with an iPhone 5 or newer, can help to keep users in the Apple ecosystem.
It’s not clear when such an application will be released, if ever. Why would Apple want that, you ask?
So, in the future, it should be pretty easy to migrate yourself from iOS to Android. That new versions of the iOS ship annually is also an advantage, as are associated services like Apple Pay.
In 2015, Apple claims 30 percent of new iPhones were being used by people who had come from Android – that was in the wake of an official app called Move to iOS which was created to make the transition in that direction easier.
Apple’s challenge will be to make them happy when they do, ensuring they never switch back.
